Key Tasks of
an Out and About
Volunteer
HELPING TO INCLUDE
PEOPLE IN THE GROUP
Volunteers on the group activities
help to make sure that everyone
is involved, chatting to people
and helping them to participate.
TO BE SUPPORTIVE
People's needs vary, they
could be anything from needing
help crossing roads, to helping
with practical things such as
keeping track of time or help with
money.
Your support will help them to
feel safe and confident whilst
they are out with us.
TO BE AN ADVOCATE
Helping someone feel confident
enough to express their own
wishes and beliefs. You should
always try to help them to speak
their mind, rather than assuming
you know what their likes and
wishes are. Your role will be
to support them in expressing
themselves.
BEING RESPECTFUL
AND RESPONSIBLE
Supporting someone with
a disability means that you have
a more responsible role
than when out with other
friends. Volunteers also need to
be respectful and listen to
people's wishes and decisions.
