Sheffield Mencap is a Registered Charity, No. 1056155,
and a
Company Limited by Guarantee, No. 3168775.
Sheffield Mencap and Gateway was started in 1951 by parents of people with learning difficulties
who wanted to provide wider education, social and leisure activities for their families.
More than 50 years later, the work started by family members has continued to develop. Sheffield Mencap
is now the largest local charity providing support and services for children and adults with learning
difficulties, their families and carers.
Sheffied Mencap is a local Mencap society that is affiliated to the Royal Mencap Society
but receives no funding from them.

 Publications
Sheffield Mencap publishes an Annual Report, copies of which can be obtained
by contacting the Mencap Office.
A year book is now available containing most of the information from the website. It is produced at no
cost to Sheffield Mencap and can be obtained free from the office.
