Michelle's story
Michelle works for Capita Hartshead by day, but she is also one of about one hundred volunteers who help out at Norfolk Lodge every week. Here's her story.
I have been a volunteer at Sheffield Mencap Gateway since October 2008. I decided that I would like to take on new challenges and gain experience working with people with learning difficulties. I love going every Wednesday to the Gateway club, as I have made new friends and have even started a little baking group of which about 14 members so far have joined. It is good to have creative ideas and participation from the members as to what they would like to cook and create each week. I have also helped out volunteering on other occasions such as the Christmas Fayre, and will be participating in The Out and About Scheme from this month taking members to the theatre etc.
I love being a volunteer and recommend for anyone who has spare time even if it's a couple of hours a week to give it a go!
