Learning
Many people with learning disabilities are keen to learn more life skills so that they can lead a more independent life. On Mondays and Tuesdays, we run a life skills course called "Progression to Independence" (PTI for short), a College-based accredited course.
Progression to Independence
All students work towards an accredited qualification for the courses that they take, which include cookery, self-advocacy, interview skills and preparing for work, computers, health& safety and exercise. All through the course they continue to work on basic skills such as literacy and numeracy.
Being on the "Progression to Independence" Course can have a huge impact on the student's life. As well as learning new skills, our students improve their communications skills and become more self-confident. They also have the opportunity to make new friends and make the most of their potential.
Target - A New Service from September 2010
From September we will be running a new service alongside PTI on Mondays & Tuesdays from 9.30am-4.30pm. This will be a non-accredited course that helps people with a learning disability develop life and social skills to be more independent at home and in the community.
Students will be able to talk about their own learning and will choose from a range of options such as cooking, keeping safe, looking after the home, computers, travelling and money and much more! There will also be the opportunity to learn about a hobby such as photography, making DVDs, pottery, sport, drama & art. It's a chance to meet other people, make new friends and have fun!
